Frequently asked questions

What is royalty-free music?

Royalty-free music is music that you pay a one-time fee for, and do not have to pay continuing royalties to use. You can then use the product for whatever reasons you see fit as many times as you want, as long as you stay within the guidelines of the license that comes with the product. The person who holds the copyright and publishing rights of the music will still own the rights even after transfer, and they have the right to apply whatever restrictions they see fit for your use of their product. Royalty-free music is not copyright free music.

When you obtain royalty-free music you're paying for the rights to use the item, but you must follow the terms that are labeled in the licensing agreement of the product. These are the guidelines the person or company who owns the rights to the product have laid out for your use.

Even though there are restrictions on royalty-free songs, you can usually use them as many times as you want for different purposes as long as you still work within the guidelines of the restrictions. If you read the licensing agreement of the music, you will know what limitations you have as well as the freedoms that are available to you.

These types of products can be a great alternative to licensing agreements. This is due to the fact that with licensing agreements, you usually have to pay for every single use of the product. With royalty-free products, you generally just have to pay a one-time fee to use the music any way you want as many times as you want to.

What am I allowed to do with the music I purchase from this site?

You may sell physical or downloadable products that contain our music but you must be sure to embed or encrypt it such that a person can’t take and use the music loop file you bought and which is licensed to you.

Edits to our music are allowed, eg cuts and fades to fit to your application.

What am not I allowed to do with the music I purchase from this site?

You may not you any of our music in any of your own musical productions. Producers, for example cannot use our tracks in any way to create new musical works. Singers and instrumentalists can not buy our music, and add their own parts on top of it to create new musical material. Any derived musical works are not allowed.

You may not re-sell any of our music or license them through a web site, produce music albums, audio collections, Unity assets, website templates or other bundles containing our music.

You are not allowed to create derived works, you are however allowed to use any loop as background music and add your voice over them in your production (ie. audio book) – you have not created derived musical works.

You can’t use our music in any kind of service where you allow final users to use the music in their custom videos, apps, slideshows and similar media created with your service.

Don’t use the music in videos made to simply play our music, not as part of a genuine video.

On our website we only sell full albums. Our music is available though other royalty free sites, but you will probably find it much more economical to buy the full album.

Am I allowed to use this music for anything other than video games?

Our music packs were written with video games in mind, but you can use them for anything you want as long as it is within the limitations of the license you have purchased. You can always email us to check if there's anything specific you want to use the music for.

How do I upgrade my license?

If you exceed the limitations of your license, you will need to contact us to upgrade to either a standard or professional license. To do this, get in touch with us via the contact form on the site, or email us at licensing@hybridgamemusic.com

Can I try the music in my project before I buy it?

All of our albums are available to download as test packs. These files are low quality (128kbps mp3s) and watermarked. This will allow you to try the music in your game before deciding to buy it.

Can I buy an exclusive license for your music?

Sorry we don't sell exclusive licenses to any of the albums on the site. The best way to get an exclusive sound track for your game would be to commission us to write one for you. Details are available on the commissions page.
